Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

Got to Benner Springs about 7:00 and I was the first person there. I walked way down stream into the Rockveiw section and fished almost the entire three hours in the section downstream from the old, big wooden no trespassing sign. The sign is no longer standing, so I figured if anyone stopped me, I had a good excuse for being in that section. The cable that used to be across the stream at the sign has been gone for at least five years, maybe more.

I had a nice morning and didn't see any other fishermen in the section I fished. In fact I didn't see any other guys fishing until I was fairly close to the parking area at the hatchery. I caught 20 fish, all brownies, and most of them were nice fish. I did catch 5 or 6 that were in the 9-10 inch range, but the other 15 fish were 11-14 inches, and the biggest fish of the morning was a nice 17 inch brown trout.

I missed as many fish as I caught this morning, so I could have had a really big day. I think I missed so many because the fish in Spring are fished over so much that they will often only lightly tap the spinner and then they take off without really hitting it. Of course the number of misses I had certainly can't be because of my age and slowing reflexes. The trout were very active this morning, so I had fun even if I did miss a bunch of them.

Spring is almost too low for good spin fishing already and it's only the middle of June. I hate to see it in the middle of July or August. It's also full of green crap and so I did have to clean my spinner almost after every cast. That doesn't bother me as much when I'm actually catching some fish. The weather sounds fairly crappy for the next couple of days, so I guess I give the trout a rest.
