Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I thought maybe I would fish the Kish this morning, but last night's rain made it a bit too high and fast for me. I checked Spring and it was fine, in fact it was still fairly low, which I guess isn't a good sign for this summer. When you consider that June is our wettest month in this area and Spring is 15 cfs below it's average flow, I suppose it will be too low for spin fishing during a lot of this summer. I fished the section below the Paradise and above the handicapped platform. I parked at the parking area directly downstream from that yellow house and near the little foot bridge. I then walked downstream to the start of the rapids above the handicapped platform and fished to above the yellow house. I would have fished further, but I ran into three young kids spin fishing downstream above the yellow house, so I figured I might as well just quit for the morning and I did. Those kids were a lot tougher than me, they were wading Spring in their sneakers and shorts. They were also thrasing the water and spooking every trout within 200 yards of them. I think they were spin fishing bait, but I'm not sure.

I had a good morning and caught 18 browns in about 2.5 hours. The best part was the size of the fish I caught this morning. I only caught two that were as small as nine inches and I caught 4 or 5 trout that were 14 inches long. The rest of the trout were in the 11-13 inch range. Spring does have a lot of nice big fat trout and some mornings I catch mostly those nice big fat trout. Some mornings I'll catch mostly 9-10 inch trout, so who knows!

One of these days I am going to fish the Kish, but by the time I get to it, I suppose the Amish will have gotten the vast majority of the stocked trout and the pickings will be slim. The section Iike to fish on the Kish is a bit rocky and hard to wade if it's high and fast, so I usually wait until the water level in the Kish is under 2.7 feet or so.
