Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

Woke up at 5:00 AM, which is my usual time to get out of bed, checked the weather forecast and the stream levels, and decided to fish the LJ. Even though they were saying showers this morning, the LJ was at what I consider a great level for spin fishing, so off I went.

I fished the loop section above Spruce Creek. I parked at the old yellow house, walked down below the RR bridge directly below the house and fished up to above the next RR bridge. I got to the Yellow house about 7:00 and there was already one car parked there. I almost decided to fish the junk yard section instead, but the car looked like it belonged to an old bait fishermen and I figured he would be fishing one of the big holes above the yellow house and I would just walk around him. I was wrong, it was a young bait fisherman, who was spin fishing minnows in the area around those nice holes. I caught fish until I got fairly close to him and then didn't catch any until I was apparently above the places he had already fished. He was on his way back downstream, so it really didn't affect my fishing very much. I didn't see any other fishermen until I got up to the second bridge and then the fly-guys were started to appear. When I walked back to my truck, there were now four vehicles parked along the side of the road near the yellow house. Always good to start early.

I had a good morning, in fact my best morning so far this year. I caught 29 fish, 27 brown trout, and 2 smallmouth bass. Six or seven of the brown trout were fairly small in the 7 to 8 inch range, but I only caught one mini-trout and that's again a bit of a surprise since they recently stocked the fingerlings in the LJ. The biggest brown I caught was a nice 15 inch trout, but I caught a lot of browns that were 11-13 inches in length. All in all, a good morning for me.

It was warm enough that I didn't have trouble with my hands and only a few drops of rain fell while I was on the stream.
