Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

It was bit cooler than I would have liked to start the morning, but it was nice by the time I finished up about 11:00. I checked the LJ water level early and thought it was still a bit higher than I would like it to be, so I was fairly sure the DHALO section would be in good shape for fishing this morning. I got there about 7:30 and drove downstream to the beginning of the DHALO section. When I got there I found another car was already parked close to where I wanted to start fishing. I didn't see anyone around, so I hoped it was a fly-guy who was fishing one of the holes and I could just walk around him.

I fished for an hour and a half and still didn't see anyone on the stream. In that time frame I only caught two fish, both stocked rainbows and both nice fish. The one rainbow was the biggest fish I caught this morning at 15 inches and the other was 13 inches. About two minutes after I caught the big rainbow, two spin guys came walking downstream, they were the guys who were in the car parked near where I started. They had been fishing ahead of me for the first hour and a half of my morning. I figured that was probably the case, since I wasn't catching any fish in spots that I almost always catch a fish or two. They told me that between them they had caught 25 trout since about 7:00 this morning. I told them that I caught the two they missed on their way upstream.

About 10 minutes later I must have finally gotten to above where those two guys quit, because I started to catch fish. I caught 15 trout in the next hour and a half. If I would have gotten to the stream before those guys I may have had a really good morning. However, it would have been even cooler at 7:00 AM than it was when I started to fish. I had fished about 3/4 of DHALO section before I passed those two guys going in the other directions. Lucky for me the section right below the old #220 bridge wasn't full of fly-guys when I got there this morning. Usually by about 10:30 or 11:00 it's got guys fishing below the bridge. I fished above the bridge and caught some nice rainbow trout in that section. This is the first time that I fished above the DHALO section and I fished upstream until I was behind a junk yard, then it was about 11:00, so I got out and walked back to my truck.

All in all it was a good morning. I caught 17 trout in about three hours, well actually I caught most of them 15 out of 17 in about 1.5 hours. Spin fishing behind guys going upstream is usually a waste of time, particulary if the guys ahead of you know what they are doing. The two guys I met this morning were good spin fishers and didn't leave me many fish that weren't at least spooked behind them. I caught all stocked fish with the exception of two of the browns I caught. The rainbows were all nice fish in the 12-13-14 inch range. The five browns were smaller fish and the wild browns were both around 9 inch fish.
