Notes

PM 6Bass 4Pike 1Eye(15.27lbs)(Bumpy ride heading out. I had to stop behind the Big Island and regroup. Without the Islands blocking the wind, I don't think I would have gone out today. I went to NW Access break line and started throwing a big Red Eye Shad as I made my way to Jaimen's Reeds. I wasn't getting any bites, so I switched to a medium-sized Cordell Spot and snagged my only 3lber of the trip off of a corner of Jaimen's Reeds. I anchored. I got three or four bites that didn't hook up. It really gusted at times. I caught the net on a back cast and broke the Spot into multiple parts with the line tie still being in the Power Clip and one of the hooks being stuck in the ne, which I didn't notice until I was at the GOMH at the end of the night. I put on an XCaliber X50. I thought that maybe throwing a lipless without a leader wasn't so smart, and it wasn't. The X50 got bit off. They are discontinued and go for $20 to $25 on eBay, and I think it was a rare color, doh! The wind finally started to calm down some around 3:30, so I fished up the reed line and got some 2lber on the Big Blade and the 1/2oz Chicken. A little after 4 pm, I headed for the Point/Flat. Nothing at the Juice. I anchored twice before proceeding East. I got a two-pound bass and anchored and started casting from the back of the boat. Then I hooked up with something big at the end of a long cast. It was on the surface to start with, and I was like What in the world is going on as I dragged it along, thrashing on the surface for about 15 feet. Then it dove. I could tell by the weight and power that it was a big fish. I doubted it was a pike because it didn't go on any power runs. It was just more of a steady, very heavy pressure. After a while of that with no relenting, I knew it was a big, big fish. I expected it to be a 5lb or bigger bass. It came to the surface boat side, and it was a giant walleye. I was shocked at it's size as it rolled and headed for the bottom. It was almost as thick as a volleyball and had to be 31 inches or better. It swam for a couple more seconds, and then my line went slack. I was stunned. Did I see what I saw, and it got off before I got another look to confirm what I saw was legit? I don't even believe it. If what I saw was legit, it would be 12lbs plus. I'm devastated that I had what I am certain was a 10lb plus over 30" walleye on and lost it. I think I have had a couple of true giants on at Mille Lacs that got off as well, but I never saw those fish. They were just very heavy head shakers that couldn't get off the bottom, and then came off. That Outkast Chicken Jig is amazing. I got one more two-pound bass, giving me six for the trip, and a 4.5lb pike as it was getting dark.)
