Notes

MCB, TMM, BD:

I checked the water levels of both Spring and the LJ this morning and decided that Spring was low for this time of the year, but I could have fished it. The LJ was a bit higher and faster than I like it to be, but it too was fishable, so I thought I would see fewer people on the LJ and besides that, I haven't fished the LJ yet in 2009.

I went upstream and fished between the two railroad bridges that are directly below the Greer School. I like that section even if the access road is bad. Usually, I have that section to myself, maybe because of the bad access road, and today was no exception. There was no one else there when I started, no one there when I finished, and I didn't see anyone else in that section during the three hours I fished it.

I caught 12 trout, which is the best I have done so far this year. Eleven of them were browns that were all in the 10 to 12 inch range. The biggest fish was also the only rainbow trout that I caught this morning. It was 16 inches long and a plump fish, but not very colorful. In fact it was the least colorful rainbow trout I think I have ever caught. I also caught a stocked brown trout in this same area, which above the second RR bridge and not too far from the end of the catch and release section of the LJ. I figure the fish guys must stock trout in the LJ in the area around Tyrone and some of them were already as far downstream as the Greer section of the LJ. The rainbow I caught had to be a stocked fish, it was so grey in color that I almost couldn't tell it was a rainbow trout.

The water temperature was still a bit cool, as it was only about 47 degrees, but it won't be long until it gets into the 50's and then the spin fishing should pick up. Tomorrow is supposed to be an ugly day, so I guess I stay home and make spinners or something. Saturday is the clean-up day on the LJ and so I'll head over to Spruce Creek and help pick up trash.
