Notes

I took my dad fishing down at Oster Lake #1 for Father's Day since we used to go fishing there all the time. It was windy when we arrived at 6am and varied between windy and extremely windy all morning and early afternoon.

My dad and John started off at their usual spot and had zero success. I went over to the NW Point and had 3 or 4 hits before I finally landed one. Fishing was very slow all morning - I switched between fast retrieves, slow retrieves, streamers, nymphs, the Hang and Bob, and nothing worked consistently. Things started to pick up for me around 10am or so.

A bit later, John moved over the the main northern point and caught a few, but said he could see lots of fish. Dad and I moved over there and damn! you could see hordes of gold trout cruising around. It was interesting - there were the occasional fish cruising around in the shallows at the west end of the lake, but the majority of the fish were concentrated in the middle/northern portion of the lake. Once over there, Dad and John did pretty good catching fish on bait/Powerbait, and I started slaying them. I went for a decent stretch of catching a fish every cast, and eventually would try to let the fish get off before I had to land him. I tried some various things to see what I could catch fish on, but the slowly-retrieved small california leech was the ticket.
