Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

It was such a nice warm morning that I broke my no fishing on Friday rule and headed over to Spruce. Of course I fished the PSU section, since I don't really have any other choice of sections to fish on Spruce. It was as low, slow, and clear as I have ever seen Spruce. I mean it was crystal clear. I had to cast fairly far ahead because the trout could see me coming from a long way off.

I had the second really good morning in a row. I caught 28 trout in about 2 and half hours, which is really a good morning for me on Spruce. I'm not sure that I have ever had a better morning on Spuce, even though it wasn't the best water conditions. I caught 26 brown trout and 2 rainbow trout. Most of the browns were in the 9-10-11 inch range and both of the rainbows were about 10 inches long. However, I did have my usual Fall good luck on Spruce. I caught a beautiful 22 inch brown trout right at the little hole near the USGS water gauge. I'm sure it was orginally a Donny trout, but it was so colorful that I'm sure it had been in the stream for at least a couple of years. I also caught a 15 inch brown and two 14 inch browns. I missed another big fish at the old wooden bridge hole. I had it hooked, but it managed to flip the hook and swim away. I think it may have been the big rainbow that both Bob and I have caught a number of times before in that general area. I also had a nice big brown follow the spinner almost to my feet, it was in water so shallow that it's back was showing, but even though I slowed the spinner down as much as I could, it never hit the spinner.

There wasn't anyone in the parking area when I started this morning and there was only one car there when I finished, so I had the stream to myself, which is rare for the PSU section of Spruce. All in all the last two days have been really good fishing days for me. Who could ask for anything more?
