Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

This morning I only went down to the Standing Stone and fished a section that I have seldom fished over the years. Bernie recommended this section and told me that he and his buddies were catching a lot fish in it. I walked back the road to Sonny's house and then walked back even further. The section where I started this morning doesn't get much fishing pressure. There were no tracks along the banks except for some "BIG" bear tracks. I had a really good first hour and caught about 16 fish in an hour's time. I figured this morning would be a mostly bass morning and didn't really expect a lot of trout action. I was thinking about using one of the magic worms for bait, but then decided on the HHS. (Herb's Homemade Spinner!) I figured I would see how many and what kind of fish I could catch on the spinner I have used for every trout that I have caught in the past 10 years or so.

I caught only 7 trout and they were all rainbows. Nice, big, stocked bows, 11, 12, & 13 inches in lenght. I figure trout season in the Stone is about over because the water temperature this morning was 70 degrees and is only going to go higher. I caught 7 fall fish and a couple were nice 11-12 inch fall fish. I caught two cute little rock bass each about 6 inches long.

But the big part of my morning was the smallmouth bass I caught. I caught two really nice fat smallies, one 15 inches, and one that was a 16 inch brute. I lost what I'm sure was (easy for me to say) the biggest fish of the day. It was a really nice smallmouth bass I had it for a while but I couldn't bring it in. It snapped off my line and was long gone. A lot of the bass were in 9-11 inch size range, and I did catch a couple of little bass. All in all it was a really good morning and I didn't have to use much gas to get there.
