Notes

I hiked up early Saturday afternoon and initially missed the lake; the main trail goes to a lower lake, Langer Lake, but there's no trail that goes to Rocky Lake (about 1/2 mile up from Langer Lake). After some wandering around in the forest I reached a cliff which I was able to spot on the Topo and with that, I found my bearings and was at the lake within a couple minutes.

When I first got there, there was nothing rising. I set up camp and walked along the entire eastern shore and saw no rises or cruising fish - not a good sign. But, the water on this side of the lake was very shallow (< 8' deep) and featureless, just a sand/mud bottom. I walked to the northeast side of the lake and finally saw a couple fish rising, but they were further out than I could cast. I fished for a bit halfheartedly then went back to camp and took a nap. Saturday night I walked along part of the south/southwest shore started seeing occasional rises - rises that were actually closer to shore. I believe I tried fishing with retrieving small nymphs with no luck, then as it got closer to dark I tried retrieving woolly buggers and white-marabou streamers. Nothing. Aside from the occasional rises, I didn't see any fish cruising. It was also quite windy the entire day/evening, making spotting fish a difficulty.
