Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

I fished the Sonny section of the Stone this morning because it only takes me two minutes to get there from my house and there the chances of seeing anyone else fishing there are really slim. I walked back past Mike the mailman's dad's house and then fished back to my truck. It took me about three hours. It was a nice morning for a little bass fishing on the Stone. The Stone was low, slow, and clear.

I caught 40 fish in about three hours. It sounds a lot better than it actually was. I caught 2 rock bass, 20 smallmouth bass, and 18 fall fish. I didn't catch, nore see any evidence of any trout left in the Stone. This is the section where I caught 7 rainbow trout a couple of weeks ago. I really didn't expect to catch trout this morning, so I wasn't upset with that result. The water temperature in that section was about 74 degrees and as far as I know there are no cool tributaries in that section for the trout to hide in. I would say the lower parts of the Stone are probably trout free by this time of the year. The biggest fish I caught this morning were a couple of 13 inch fall fish. In fact the fall fish were bigger by and large than the smallmouth bass that I caught. I caught about 10 mini-bass that were in the 4 to 5 inch size range. I could have caught a lot more of the mini-bass, except that when I saw little bass chasing the spinner, I tried to pull it away from them. The biggest smallmouth that I caught this morning was 11 inches. I couldn't seem to scare up any of the really big nice smallmouth bass, but then you will have days like this.
