Notes

MCB, TMM, & BD:

Got up this morning and figured I would go see if I could catch some bass on the Stone. The nice thing about fishing Standing Stone is I don't have to drive very far and use very much of that expensive gas. I hadn't fished the section behind Donation for at least two years. I really don't think that many peope fish that section this time of the year. In fact it probably only gets pressure for a few weeks after the opening of trout season. It's fairly wild back in there and I didn't have to share the stream with anyone else except for the deer, the snakes, the ducks, and the heron.

I caught 27 fish in about three hours, but nary a trout among them. The water temperature was 72 degrees, so the trout have either been caught or have moved to try and find some cool spots. My guess is that most of them have been caught or died off. I caught 17 smallmouth bass and 10 fall fish. I didn't catch any really big smallmouths this morning but I did catch 4 or 5 that were 12-13 inch fish and that's a fairly nice size smallmouth to catch on ultralight gear. I also caught 5 or 6 mini-bass in the 5-6 inch range. The biggest fish of the morning was a 14 inch fall fish. Both the bass and the fall fish put up good fights this morning, so it was fun to catch them. Since I don't keep any fish and I don't eat any of them, I don't really care exactly what type of fish I am catching. I had more fun catching these fish this morning, than I did catching the 11 trout yesterday morning. More action.
I didn't catch any rock bass and I usually catch at least a couple of them in sections like I fished this morning. Maybe they weren't interested in my spinner, who knows?
